The song was recorded in 2009 by the Pussycat Dolls with English lyrics and featuring lead vocals from Nicole Scherzinger. Produced in collaboration with A. R. Rahman and Ron Fair, Scherzinger prefers to consider this version an interpretation of the original song rather than a remix. The song was released internationally on February 24th 2009 and in the UK on March 15th 2009. ‘Jai Ho’ entered the UK Singles Chart at No.20 on March 22nd and the following week it rose 15 places to No.5 giving the Pussycat Dolls there eighth top ten single in the country. The song initially was released as a promotional single, but will now be released as the first worldwide single from ‘Doll Domination 2.0′ [2009], a re-release version of of their original album ‘Doll Domination’ [2008]. The music video premiered on March 13th 2009. The Pussycat Dolls recreated the last scene from Slumdog Millionaire in the video for ‘Jai Ho [You Are My Destiny]‘ featuring A.R. Rahman. The clip was shot at a Tramway Museum in Vienna, Austria, and was directed by Thomas Kloss.
